Historic 2nd place finish for Germán Quiroga at Gateway Motorsports Park

COMPÁRTELO
Germán Quiroga took the checkered flag in the second position in his first visit to Gateway Motorsports Park, earning both his career-highest finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and the highest finish by a Mexican-born driver in any of NASCAR's top series. The México City native started ninth in the NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra after being fast in two practice sessions on Friday, finishing seventh in both. The crowd at the Madison, Illiinois race track enjoyed intense racing from the moment that the green flag dropped for the Drivin' for Linemen 200, with the first caution occurring on lap five. Shortly before the first scheduled pit stop of the night the No. 77 machine, along with numerous other competitors, ran out of fuel bringing out the caution flag.

Quiroga coasted to pit road where the team gave him four fresh tires and fuel. He was 19th and a lap down to the leader when green-flag racing resumed. The next caution occurred shortly after, and Quiroga was in the 'Lucky Dog' position to earn the free pass to get back on the lead lap. Patience paid off for the No. 77 team as Quiroga steadily made his way through the field, and he found himself in fifth place before the sixth caution period of the night.

A fast pit stop by the NET10 Wireless pit crew gained him spots, and put him in position to fight for the win with less than 20 laps remaining. Following a lap-153 restart, Quiroga took the lead. The final caution of the evening set up an exciting three-lap sprint to the checkered flag, where Quiroga came home second, and moved up to fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship point standings.

Germán Quiroga Quote:

"I love this track (Gateway Motorsports Park) and had a lot of fun driving it. We had an amazing NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra that everyone at the Red Horse Racing shop worked really hard to get ready for Gateway [Motorsports Park].

It was really important for me to come back strong after not finishing in Texas, and that's what we did. We managed to be patient when things weren't on our side, and we finished second which is what is going to help us stay in the fight for the championship"
